Praise be to Allah, we seek His help. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allah leaves astray, no one can guide. The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah (alone with no partners) and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. (this is how Prophet SAW used to start his speech Nisai 3278Nisai 1578)

My Lord, open up my heart [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech.[20:25-28] Ameen

O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad (Nasai 1292)

Fitrana or Sadaqa tul fitr or Zakat ul fitr, it's compulsory on every Muslim big or small and it should be given before Eid prayer. If given afterwards it becomes a normal Sadaqah.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prescribed the sadaqah (alms) relating to the breaking of the fast as a purification of the fasting from empty and obscene talk and as food for the poor. If anyone pays it before the prayer (of 'Id), it will be accepted as zakat. If anyone pays it after the prayer, that will be a sadaqah like other sadaqahs (alms).

Abu Dawud 1609 (Hasan)

Ibn Umar said that Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) prescribed the payment of Zakat-ul-Fitr (on breaking the fast) of Ramadan for people, for every freeman, or slave, male and female among the Muslims one sa' of dried dates, or one sa' of barley.
How much fitrana should be given.

Sad b. Abu Sarh heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri as saying:

We used to take out as the Zakat of Fitr one sa' of grain, or one sa' of barley or one sa' of dates, or one sa' of cheese or one sa' of raisins.
Sahih Muslim 2284/985a

In the hadith above it is mentioned that one sa, "sa" was a bowl shape instrument of measurement at the time of Prophet S.A.W.

one sa = 4 mudd
So, to be on the safe side 3 kg. Some of them measure it to 4kg.

Now the main issue is as you see in all the Sahih Hadith it is mentioned 1 sa of this, 1 sa of that. If today you look at the circulars, it is mentioned 2 KG wheat, 4 KG Raisin, 4 KG barley, 4 KG date.
Why is wheat 2KG????? Is it not suppose to be one sa or 4 mudd as well? The reason behind it is decision of Moawiya R.A

Abd Sa'id al-Khudri reported:

We, on behalf of every young or old, free man or slave (amongst us), used to take out during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as the Zakat of Fitr one sa' of grain, or one sa' of cheese or one sa' of raisins. And we continued taking out these till Mu'awiya b. Abu Sufyan came to us for pilgrimage or 'Umra, and addressed the people on the pulpit and said to them: I see that two mudds of zakat out of the wheat (red) of Syria is equal to one sa' of dates. So the people accepted it. But Abu Sa'id said: I would continue to take out as I used to take out (before, i e. one sa') as long as I live.
One should be like Abu Saeed Khudri R.A and follow Sunnah of Prophet S.A.W, it was a mistake made by Moawiya R.A which should be abandoned, wheat should also be given 4 KG or 3 KG not 2 KG.

It's up to you. You can either give these products or the cash equivalent to it, fatwas of Umar bin Abdul Aziz R.Alai and Hasan Basri R.Alai regarding giving price of these products is present in Musanaf ibn Abi Shaybah 10469 and 10471 graded as sahih.

Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except You, I seek You forgiveness, and I repent to You Tirmidhi 3433

O Allah! Enable us to see the Truth as Truth and give us the ability to follow it. And show us the falsehood as false and give us the ability to refrain from it. Ameen
