Is the 27th Night Laylatul Qadr? Does It Follow Saudi Arabia's Odd Nights or Your Country's?
﷽
Laylatul Qadr is supposed to be a single night but how is it possible, as Ramadan in some countries are 1 day ahead or behind, are we supposed to find it in all 10 last days?
First thing first, a person can pray the whole Ramadan or especially the whole last 10 days to find Laylatul Qadr but the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W told us to find it in the last odd nights,
Narrated Abu Sa’id Al Khudri :The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to spend the middle ten days of Ramadan in retirement and devotion (i'tikaf) in the mosque. One year he had retirement and devotion in the mosque (as usual); when the twenty-first night came, and this night when he used to come out his devotion in the mosque, he said: He who has engaged himself in devotion along with me should do so during the last ten days; I saw that night, that was caused to forget it, but I have seen myself prostrating in water and mud on the morning following (that night), so seek it in the last ten days and seek it every night with an odd number. Abu sa'id said: Rain fell that night, the mosque that was thatched building dripped, and my eyes saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) with the traces of water and mud, on his forehead on the morning following the twenty-first night. Abu Dawud 1382 (Sahih)
Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Seek it (laylat al-Qadr) in the last ten days of Ramadan. Seek it on the ninth, seventh and fifth night. I (AbuNadrah) said: You know counting better than us, AbuSa'id. He said: Yes. I asked: What do you mean by the ninth, seventh and fifth night? He said: When the twenty-first night passes, the night which follows it is the night; when the twenty-third night passes, the night which follows it is the seventh; when the twenty-fifth passes, the night which follows it is the fifth.
Abu Dawud said: I do not know whether anything remained hidden from me or not.
Abu Dawud 1383 (Sahih)
Narrated `Aisha:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan."
According to these Ahadith, it is clear that laylatul Qadr is in any of the last odd nights of Ramadan that is 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th. So, the question which creates a confusion 21st/ odd night of Saudia or of my country?
One thing to keep in my mind is Allah is not bound by time space. Secondly, it is Allah who told us via Prophet to find the Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights and He very well knew that in some countries according to geography the Ramadan may start 1 day early or late based on moon sighting.
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا....
Allah does not burden any human being with a responsibility heavier than he can bear.... (2:286)
Thirdly, if for example one was to follow the odd nights of Saudia, it would be physically impossible for people of some countries of west to find it in those exact nights because the 21st night of Saudia would mean daytime for them and in that case, they would lose this huge blessing, so this idea is bogus. One has to find it in the odd nights according to his timezone and country. If it was fixed to Saudia, Prophet would have told us.
Last but not the least, this is purely my opinion, Laylatul Qadr is not just one fixed night it keeps on rotating every year, in one Ramadan it may be 21st in one, it maybe 23rd in other and so on. Why do I say this, because after analyzing various Ahadith, there is a difference of opinion in some Hadith. The laytul qadr according to Sahaba was on
- 21st (Abu Dawud 1382) in some,
- 23rd (Muslim 2775/1168, Abu Dawud 1379 1380) in some,
- 27th (Abu dawud 1378, Tirmidhi 3351) and so on.
Pray, ask for forgiveness, pray especially for brothers and sisters of Palestine and many other countries where tyranny is at large. You can also pray Salat Tasbih in these nights alone, not in congregation Abu Dawud 1297
Few shortcuts for us,
‘Uthman b. ‘Affan reported the Messenger of Allah (may peace be him) as saying; if anyone says the night prayer (Isha) in congregation, he is like one who prayed till midnight; and he who says both the night and dawn prayer (Fajr) in congregation is like one who prayed the whole night.
Thauban reported the Prophet as saying, “This wakefulness is a toil and a burden, so when one of you observes a witr he should pray two rak'as. If he gets up during the night, well and good; otherwise they will serve for him."
This was a short one only to answer that specific question according to my understanding of Quran and Sunnah.
Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except You, I seek You forgiveness, and I repent to You Tirmidhi 3433
