Eid according to Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم or Banu Umayyah
﷽
1) Description of Eid Prayer
Yahya related to me from Malik that Nafi, the mawla of Abdullah ibn Umar said, "I was at Adha and Fitr with Abu Hurayra and he said 'Allah is greater'(Takbir) seven times in the first raka, before the recitation, and five times in the second, before the recitation."
Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would say the takbir (Allah is most great) seven times in the first rak'ah and five times in the second rak'ah on the day of the breaking of the fast and on the day of sacrifice (on the occasion of both the 'Id prayers, the two festivals).
Read these as well Ibn Majah 1277 1278 1279
Abu 'Aishah said:Sa'id b. al-'As asked Abu Musa al-Ash'ari and Hudhaifah b. al-Yaman: How would the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) utter the takbir (Allah is most great) in the prayer of the day of sacrifice and of the breaking of the fast. Abu Musa said: He uttered takbir four times as he did at funerals. Hudhaifah said: He is correct. Then Abu Musa said: I used to utter the takbir in a similar way when I was the governor of Basrah. Abu 'Aishah said: I was present there when Sa'id b. al-'As asked.Abu Dawud 1153 ( Daif by Zubair Ali Zai) (Abu Aishah is Majhool Narrator)
In Jami Tirmidhi
Kathir bin Abdullah narrated from this father, from his grandfather:"The Prophet said the Takbir in the first (Rak'ah) sever (times) before the recitation, and in the last, five (times) before the recitation."
In comments of this hadith Imam Tirmidhi mentioned the Hadith of Abdullah ibn Masood that he used to pray Eid prayer like Funeral prayer with 4 takbeers in first rakah and 4 in second rakah. This hadith can be found in Majma al Zawaid 3249, Similar to Abu Dawud 1153
"The Prophet said the Takbir in the first (Rak'ah) sever (times) before the recitation, and in the last, five (times) before the recitation."
- Imam Tirmidhi says, this is an action of a Sahabah he didn't refer it to Prophet whereas in other Ahadith we know that Prophet prayed 12 takbeers in total
There is another Hadith which actually refers to Prophet S.A.W praying Eid prayer like Funeral Prayer. In Sharh Mani ul Asaar 7273 (Tahawi), Silsilah Sahiha 774
Imam Tahawi marked it as Hasan whereas many other muhaditeen found issues in the narrators. There is a narrator in this hadith Al Wadeen
- al-Wadeen ibn ‘Ata’, even though Ibn Ma‘een and Ahmad said that there is nothing wrong with him, some of the scholars had something to say about him. It was narrated from al-Waleed ibn Muslim that he said concerning him: He used to deliver good khutbahs but he was not very strong in narrating hadith. Muhammad ibn Sa‘d said: He was da‘eef in hadith. Al-Jawzjaani said: He is waahin (weak) in hadith. Abu Haatim said: Some of his hadith may be recognisable and other are odd. Ibraaheem ibn Ishaaq al-Harbi said: Others are more trustworthy than him. ‘Abd al-Baaqi ibn Qaani‘ said: He is da‘eef. See: Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb (11/ 121)
In short, I would prefer the 12 takbeer Eid prayer as it is mentioned in authentic Ahadith whereas the Hadith which refers to 7/8 takbeer are weak and has issues in it. Wallahu Alam.

2) Sermon before Eid Prayer
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
I offered the `Id prayer with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman and all of them offered the prayer before delivering the Khutba.
- governor who forged the document due to which there was an uprising against Usman RA & AS and he was murdered,
- the killer of Talha bin Ubaidullah R.A [one of the companion of Prophet who was given glad tiding of Janah in this world Mustadrak Al Hakim 5589-5591],
- killer of Abdur Rehman bin Abi Bakr R.A Bukhari 4827, Other detailed chains of this hadith can be found here in Tafseer ibn Katheer under the commentary of Surah Ahqaf verse 17)
- His father was cursed and banished by Prophet S.A.W before his birth as Umm ul momineen Ayesha R.A said Mustadrak Al Hakim 8483
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Sa’ib said:“I attended the ‘Eid prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He led us in offering the ‘Eid prayer, then he said: ‘I have finished the prayer. Whoever wants to sit (and listen to) the sermon, then let him sit, and whoever wants to leave, then let him leave.’”
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) used to go out on the day of Adha and on the day of Fitr and commenced the prayer. And after having observed his prayer and pronounced the salutation, he stood up facing people as they were seated at their places of worship. And if he intended to send out an army he made mention of it to the people, and if he intended any other thing besides it, he commanded them (to do that). He used to say (to the people):Give alms, give alms, give alms, and the majority that gave alms was of women. He then returned and this (practice) remained (in vogue) till Marwan b. al- Hakam (came into power). I went out hand in hand with Marwan till we came to the place of worship and there Kathir b. Salt had built a pulpit of clay and brick. Marwan began to tug me with his hand as though he were pulling me towards the pulpit, while I was pulling him towards the prayer. When I saw him doing that I said: What has happened to the practice of beginning with prayer? He said: No, Abu Sa'id, what you are familiar with has been abandoned (Naozobillah). I thereupon said (three times and went back): By no means, by Him in Whose hand my life is, you are not doing anything better than what I am familiar with.
It is narrated on the authority of Tariq b. Shihab:It was Marwan who initiated (the practice) of delivering khutbah (address) before the prayer on the 'Id day. A man stood up and said: Prayer should precede khutbah. He (Marwan) remarked, This (practice) has been done away with (Naozobillah). Upon this Abu Sa'id remarked: This man has performed (his duty) laid on him. I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith
Woah man ! never knew about these bidah ! I always have prayed in Ahle Hadeeth Mosque, so that's why they don't follow any innovations...
ReplyDeleteWell these days even in Ahle Hadeeth Masjids, they do some of the stuff which are not described in the Sunnah. So 🤷♂️ .....
