Quran will testify against you!!!

Quran will testify against you!!!

Bismillah hir Rahman Nir Raheem

My Lord, expand for me my chest [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech. Ameen

After reading the heading you must be thinking that I am going nuts. How can Quran testify against us? But it's the truth, Quran on the Day of Judgement will either testify in our favour or against us 😱. The Prophet SAW said:

...Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you...

Not only that even the Prophet SAW would testify against us on the Day of Judgement because of Quran.

وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَهْجُورًا ‎﴿٣٠﴾

اور پیغمبر کہیں گے کہ اے پروردگار میری قوم نے اس قرآن کو چھوڑ رکھا تھا

And the Messenger will say, "O my Lord, my people had made this Qur'an the object of their ridicule." [Furqan 25:30]

That's pretty serious, the Prophet SAW and the Quran itself will stand against us on the Day of Judgement. What should we do then? Is there a way to avoid all this. Yes there is, we need to fulfil the rights of Quran. The question is what are the rights of Quran? Different scholars have summed up the rights of Quran which are derived from the Quran itself. In total they are six, some say six some five.
  1. To believe in Quran
  2. To recite the Quran
  3. To understand Quran (what you are reciting)
  4. To ponder on what the Quran is saying
  5. To act upon the teachings of Quran
  6. To convey it to others.
These steps are sequential and if we fulfil all six of these rights of Quran then we can hope that Quran will not testify against us but in favor of us InShaaAllah. Now one would ask, how many years would it take to go from step 1 to step 2 or step 5 to step 6, right?! There is no such restriction if a person has understood even a single ayah it is his duty to convey it to others.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Convey (my teachings) to the people even if it were a single sentence, and tell others the stories of Bani Israel (which have been taught to you), for it is not sinful to do so. And whoever tells a lie on me intentionally, will surely take his place in the (Hell) Fire."

[Sahih Bukhari 3461]

Some people say that a normal person cannot understand Quran, he must first do some of the courses, he must go to a madrasah and acquire some knowledge then he will be able to understand the Quran. This is required only for those who wants to translate the Quran by themselves or to write a tafseer. What I am talking about is choose someone's translation, if you are Brailvi read Ahmad Raza Khan Brailvi's translation, if you are Deobandi read Ashraf Ali Thanvi's translation, if you are Ahle hadith read Jhonagari's translation, if you are Shia read Syed Farman Ali Shah's translation, if you want to read the translation of a neutral person read Mulana Maududi (Tafheem ul Quran), Ameen Ahsan Islahi (Tadabar ul Quran), Dr Israr (Bayan ul Quran) etc (ONLY TRANSLATION, THE FIRST TIME NO COMMENTARY) and once you complete it switch to another one so that your spectrum may broaden.
Now the ulamas will say that don't read Quran directly read from us. We will tell you what's written in it, just ask that alim, he must be represting a particular sect ask him that can you explain it better than your sects bigshot alims whose translation I am reading. These are their tactics so that they are not thrown out of the loop and secondly to keep you in their sect and to inject such things which are not mentioned in Quran. Just imagine a person understanding the Quran by himself what will the molvi do then, his money and earnings will stop. Allah is saying Himself that the Quran is easy to understand but no!!! we have more trust in molvis then in the book of Allah.

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ ‎﴿٤٠﴾

اور ہم نے قرآن کو سمجھنے کے لئے آسان کردیا ہے تو کوئی ہے کہ سوچے سمجھے؟

Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? [Qamar 54:40]

Let's briefly understand what these rights of Quran are

1. To believe in Quran:

فَآمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَالنُّورِ الَّذِي أَنزَلْنَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ ‎﴿٨﴾

تو خدا پر اور اس کے رسول پر اور نور (قرآن) پر جو ہم نے نازل فرمایا ہے ایمان لاؤ۔ اور خدا تمہارے سب اعمال سے خبردار ہے

So believe in Allah and in His Messenger and in the Light that We have sent down. Allah is fully aware of what you do.[Taghabun 64:8]

To believe in Quran, means to believe that this book is the word of Allah revealed on Prophet SAW via Jibreel A.S and that whatever is in this book is applicable in which ever era a person is in, and that this is not a book of science or a book of mathematics or history, it is a book of guidance and that Allah has taken the responsibility of its protection. To believe in all this, is the first and foremost right of the Quran.

2. To recite (Tilawat) the Quran:

اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ....

(اے محمدﷺ! یہ) کتاب جو تمہاری طرف وحی کی گئی ہے اس کو پڑھا کرو اور نماز کے پابند رہو۔....

(O Prophet), recite the Book that has been revealed to you and establish Prayer...[Ankaboot 29:45]

To recite the Quran is what most of the Muslims do which is good, to read the Arabic text (like parrots not knowing what it means), for each single alphabet of Arabic text of Quran which is the word of Allah 10 good deeds are recorded as mentioned in Hadith. But the sad thing is we restrict ourselves only to recitation Illa MaShaaAllah.

In Arabic there are different words for reciting/reading like قرأ, تلع. What is the significance of tala or tilawat. Tilawat means to rehearse, it includes read and to follow. Mostly Muslims do اقرا not تلع.

3. To understand the Quran (what the Arabic text means):

وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَمْ يَخِرُّوا عَلَيْهَا صُمًّا وَعُمْيَانًا ‎﴿٧٣﴾‏

اور وہ کہ جب ان کو پروردگار کی باتیں سمجھائی جاتی ہیں تو اُن پر اندھے اور بہرے ہو کر نہیں گرتے (بلکہ غور سے سنتے ہیں)

who, when reminded of the revelations of their Lord, do not try to ignore them as though deaf and blind. Rather, they try to understand and think about them.[Al Furqaan 25:73]

To understand what is written in the Quran. The Quran was not sent down just merely so that we may recite it like parrots without understanding the meaning of it. We should strive to know what Allah wants from us. He sent down his word and what we have done is wrapped it in a cloak perfumed it and decorated it on the top most shelf in our house and it is used only when we need to wed our daughters and sisters. Pakistan is at the top of the list in producing hufaaz every year but how many of those hufaaz knows what they are reciting or meaning of it. In our societies we see people in certain clothings who teaches children how to recite Quran and they themselves don't know what they are reciting Illa MaShaaAllah.

Those to whom We have sent down the Book, and who read it as it should be read, believe in it truly; but those who deny it will be losers [Baqara 2:121]

Narrated `Uthman:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."

Here some people ask that will we get the same 10 good deeds per alphabet if we read only the translation. The answer is that the 10 good deeds per alphabet is on Arabic words which are the words of Allah. The translations which we read are not the words of Allah but an interpretation of the Mufassir but it doesn't mean that a person will not get the reward for that, he will InShaaAllah get the reward for struggling to learn the Quran to understand it and he may get more Wallahu Alam.

4. To ponder on what the Quran is saying:

فَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا ‎﴿٢٤﴾

بھلا یہ لوگ قرآن میں غور نہیں کرتے یا (ان کے) دلوں پر قفل لگ رہے ہیں

Do they not ponder on what the Qur'an says? Or have their hearts been sealed with locks? [Muhammad 47:24]

كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ ‎﴿٢٩﴾‏

(یہ) کتاب جو ہم نے تم پر نازل کی ہے بابرکت ہے تاکہ لوگ اس کی آیتوں میں غور کریں اور تاکہ اہل عقل نصیحت پکڑیں

We have sent down a Book to you which is blessed, so that people may apply their minds to its revelations, and the men of wisdom may reflect.[Sad 38:29]

To ponder on what the Quran means to implement it on today's life to know what our duties are and how to implement it in todays world to broaden our spectrum of thinking.

5. To act upon the teachings of Quran:

Follow the best of what has been revealed to you by your Lord before the punishment overtakes you suddenly and you are caught unawares,[Zumar 39:55]

Verily this Qur'an directs you to the path that is straight, and gives happy tidings to those who believe and do the right: For them is a great reward.[Bani Israel 17:9]

To act upon what you have understood from Quran that's the key goal of sending the Quran.

6. To convey it to others:

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِّمَّن دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ‎﴿٣٣﴾‏

اور اس شخص سے بات کا اچھا کون ہوسکتا ہے جو خدا کی طرف بلائے اور عمل نیک کرے اور کہے کہ میں مسلمان ہوں

Whose word is better than his who calls to God and does the right, and says: "I am of the obedient?"[Fussilat 41:33]

...فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ ‎﴿٤٥﴾‏

...پس جو ہمارے (عذاب کی) وعید سے ڈرے اس کو قرآن سے نصیحت کرتے رہو

...So keep on reminding through the Qur'an whoever fears My warning.[Qaaf 50:45]

You are now the best people brought forth for (the guidance and reform of) mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.... [Al-e-Imran 3:110]

This is the most important part, to convey what you have learned to others.

The main reason why Allah has sent the Quran and everything is so that we may establish a system of justice.

Indeed We sent Our Messengers with Clear Signs, and sent down with them the Book and the Balance that people may uphold justice. And We sent down iron, wherein there is awesome power and many benefits for people, so that Allah may know who, without even having seen Him, helps Him and His Messengers. Surely Allah is Most Strong, Most Mighty.[Hadid 57:25]

One more thing to keep in mind, many people say that there are various versions of Deen which to follow, which translation of Quran to read. Remember if you take a step to know what is right and show some struggle Allah will help you remember Allah is there is there to help you.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' "

[Bukhari 7405]

The thing is you have to take a step and Allah will guide you as he has promised in the above Hadith. The only thing is intention why are you doing this? is it to make and support your sect? or to strengthen your team? or is it to learn the Deen and to know the right path? because remember whatever your intention is Allah will make you into that.

....Allah leads astray many and guides many to the right way by the same thing. And He leads astray only those who disobey Allah;

[Baqarah 2:26]

Those who say “Allah is our Lord” and then remain steadfast, upon them descend angels (and say): “Do not fear nor grieve, and receive good tidings of Paradise which you were promised.(30) We are your companions in this world and in the Hereafter. There you shall have all that you desire and all what you will ask for.(31) [Fusilat 41:30-31]

May Allah guide me and you to the straight path.

O Allah! Enable us to see the Truth as Truth and give us the ability to follow it. And show us the falsehood as false and give us the ability to refrain from it. Ameen
